The Saint Louis University Counseling Center offers a Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC) to providing recovering students and their allies a safe and welcoming support network.
The Collegiate Recovery Community meets 4 - 5 p.m. every Wednesday in the Starkloff Room in Wuller Hall, inside the Eckelkamp Center for Campus Ministry on the West Pine Mall.
The mission of the CRC is to help students who are actively engaged in recovery achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals while participating in the collegiate experience free from addiction. By nurturing you as a whole, the CRC encourages you to achieve higher standards for yourself, within and beyond your program of recovery.
The CRC hosts a variety of events, such as bowling outings, movie nights, 12-step meetings with pizza and community service projects. Some of these drug/alcohol free events are hosted on the Saint Louis University campus and others are in locations around the Saint Louis area but all of our programming is designed to provide:
- Fellowship: A safe place to hang out, study or just relax.
- Community: Support from alumni, faculty, staff and other students, all of whom are committed to either their own recovery or working with those who are in recovery and leading a life free from addiction.
- Achievement: A place for personal growth, accountability and academic support.
The CRC is an inclusive community, welcoming members who are ready to make a year-long commitment, as well as those attending a single event. No obligation or long-term agreement is needed.
Participants in the CRC are interested in living sober for a variety of reasons. Some are involved in 12-step recovery programs like AA, Al-Anon and ACOA, while others are just starting to question their substance use. Some members have a family history of alcoholism, while others want to serve as allies to people in recovery.
The only requirement is that you are alcohol and drug free when you participate.
